On 24 and 25 June 2014, SKOP hosted a two day design workshop at Guga S’Thebe Arts and Culture Centre in Langa, Cape Town. The workshop (an official World Design Capital 2014 project) was designed to function on a multiplicity of levels:
Social – sensitising learners to the importance of design to our culture and way of life and bridging the divide between high school learners from historically divided communities by utilising design as a central node between learners from schools in Langa and Durbanville.
Environmental – addressing up-cycling and re-purposing of used and discarded materials with a focus on design as a problem solving tool.
Economical – with a focus on skills training and entrepreneurship, presenting design as a viable career option.
